Are you unhappy with the way your body looks after one or more pregnancies? Although exercise can be very helpful, it’s not always enough to lift and firm sagging areas.

Dr. Barbara Siwy, a plastic surgeon serving the Indianapolis area in Carmel and Bloomington, IN, explains how you can benefit from a mommy makeover.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover targets the areas that concern many women after pregnancy: the breasts and abdomen. The makeover combines a Tummy Tuck with a Breast Lift to help you regain your slim, toned physique.

Help for Sagging Breasts

A Breast Lift not only raises sagging breasts but also improves their shape. If you’ve lost volume in your breasts after pregnancy, you may want to add implants during your surgery. During the procedure, which is performed under general anesthesia, excess tissue and skin will be removed and the breast tissue will be lifted.

Your nipples and areolas, the darker circular areas that surround the nipples, will also be re-positioned. Sometimes, pregnancy can cause areolas to enlarge. If you’re not happy with the size of your areolas, they can be reduced during the procedure.

After surgery, your breasts will be swollen and feel uncomfortable for a few days. Following your surgeon’s instructions and wearing soft bras around the clock for about a month will help improve your comfort. Although you can resume normal activities that don’t involve overhead lifting or strenuous activity after a few days, you’ll probably need to schedule at least a week off from work to recover from the procedure.

A Firmer Abdomen

Your Tummy Tuck will also be performed using general anesthesia. Breast Lifts are usually outpatient surgical procedures, but if you have a Breast Lift and a Tummy Tuck, you’ll need to stay in the hospital overnight.

Tummy Tuck surgery involves tightening abdominal wall muscles and removing fat and extra skin from your abdomen through an incision that extends from hipbone to hipbone. Your navel will also be re-positioned during the procedure.

Pain and swelling is common after a Tummy Tuck and can be controlled with prescription medications. Due to the swelling, you may be concerned that the Tummy Tuck wasn’t successful, but once it decreases, you’ll enjoy a noticeably flatter abdomen.

You’ll need to take at least two to four weeks off after surgery and must not lift anything heavy, including small children, for the first few weeks after your Tummy Tuck.

A mommy makeover offers the ideal way to regain your pre-pregnancy figure. If you’re interested in this type of plastic surgery, call Dr. Siwy, your plastic surgeon serving the Indianapolis area in Carmel and Bloomington, IN, at (317) 876-7777 to schedule an appointment.
