What is a Body Lift?

Body lift surgery helps adjust the contours of the body, for a more youthful, proportionate, and appealing appearance. Body lift surgery is ideal for those who have experienced extreme weight loss or who have excess or sagging skin and fat tissue around the thighs, arms, abdomen, buttock, and hip area. A body lift is one of many post weight loss cosmetic surgery procedures available from Dr. Siwy.

Body Lift Surgery

The body lift procedure incorporates multiple body contouring and lifting surgeries in order to proportionately reshape your entire body. If you have problems with skin and fat tissue around your belly area, the body lift surgeon will perform an abdominoplasty / tummy tuck. If you have saggy buttocks, hips, or thighs, a buttock lift or thigh lift will be performed.

Total body lift surgery refers to all procedures performed at once.  Dr. Siwy tailors your surgical plan to your desires, as well as to what can be done safely and efficiently. Oftentimes, it may be recommended to proceed with your surgeries in stages, perhaps performing the tummy tuck first, followed by the circumferential thigh lift a few months later. Staging of the surgeries in this manner will typically give the best result in the safest manner. Surgery time varies from two hours to four hours, depending on the amount of skin to be removed and placement of the incisions.

After Body Lift Surgery / Recovery

Your condition and recovery after a body lift depends on the extent of the procedure performed. Prior to the actual body lift surgery, we will discuss what to expect following the surgery. Most body lift patients require at least one night in the hospital, sometimes two, before feeling comfortable in going home. Most body lift patients require three to six weeks off before returning to work.

Potential Risks

While Dr. Siwy takes great care in performing body lift surgery, complications are possible, though usually rare. Infection after body lift surgery can be treated with drainage and antibiotics, but this will prolong your hospital stay. Smokers are advised to stop smoking, as it may increase the risk of complications and delay the healing process after body lift surgery.
